The 1st Battalion, 4th Regiment of the U.S. Marines, also known as the “China Marines,” is based out of Camp Pendleton. This Infantry Battalion has over 800 men and officers and has a storied history dating back to 1922, with action in China, the Philippines, Okinawa, Vietnam and four combat tours in Iraq. The China Marines are a combat deployable battalion that is called to support Marine Expeditionary Units in the Pacific Theater of Operations and other crisis situations in a multitude of roles and responsibilities.
